Electrochemical materials and processes for green hydrogen and green chemistry (ECCM)

an initiative for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK)

Both Germany and the Netherlands have embarked on an ambitious path towards climate neutrality. This represents an enormous technological and economic challenge for both countries, which requires an increased use of renewable energy in all production sectors. Green hydrogen can play a significant role in this. As one of the most efficient industrial clusters in the world, Germany and the Netherlands can contribute to accelerating the development of climate-neutral technologies through combined research efforts and close cooperation. For this reason, the Netherlands Research Council (NWO), the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Action (BMWK) and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) jointly call for proposals for research projects in the field of electrochemical materials and processes for green hydrogen and green chemistry.

Energieforschung.de provides information on this and other funding offers from the BMWK (German only).

Submission is no longer possible.

Note on the submission deadline: The submission deadline is 7 February 2023, 2pm CET.

Informationen zur Förderung

Wer wird gefördert?

The call for funding is aimed at research institutions, universities and companies. The project ideas should involve partners along the entire innovation chain from research to industry to end users. The contributions of German and Dutch partners should be balanced. Further criteria can be found in the call for proposals.

Was wird gefördert?

Funding is provided for cooperation projects between German and Dutch partners that pursue the goal of developing highly innovative and practically relevant processes for green hydrogen and green chemistry.

The focus of this funding is on technological innovation and covers five areas. Interdisciplinary research projects and the consideration of socio-economic and societal aspects are explicitly desired.

  1. Electrolysis
    1. Storage of hydrogen
    2. Power-to-X technologies
  2. Electro synthesis
  3. Materials and catalysis
  4. Development and manufacturing processes for electrolysis systems
  5. System design and integration

Wie wird gefördert?

Projects are funded for a period of between two and four years, but shorter projects are not excluded. Projects should be balanced between Dutch and German partners. Under these conditions, collaborative projects can be supported with grants of between 600,000 euros and 2 million euros.

Each consortium appoints a German and a Dutch national coordinator. The national coordinators can submit a joint project outline until 7 February 2023, 2pm CET. The template provided must be used for this purpose. A panel of experts put together by the Dutch Research Council and the Project Management Organisation Jülich (PtJ) will carry out the review and recommend eligible projects to the BMWK and BMBF as well as to the NWO Board.
